From slipped tiles to full re-roofs

Post any roofing job here, from a couple of slipped tiles or a blocked gutter to a new flat roof on the garage or a full re-roof. Pick the job type that fits best. If yours isn't listed, choose "Something else" and describe it.

Roofers work on pitched roofs in tile or slate, flat roofs in felt, rubber or fibreglass, chimneys and lead flashing, and the roofline: fascias, soffits and gutters. Some do the lot. Others stick to flat roofs or roofline work. The roofer who takes your job on will be in touch to talk it through and arrange a quote.

A few things are worth knowing before you start. Most re-roofing needs building regulations approval, and when more than half a roof is renovated it normally has to be insulated to current standards. A roofer registered with the Competent Roofer scheme can self-certify that work. Bats and their roosts are protected by law, so tell the roofer if you've seen bats around the roof. Homes built before 2000 can have asbestos in garage roof sheets, soffits, gutters and flues. If scaffolding has to go on the pavement, the scaffolding firm applies to Gloucestershire County Council's highways team for the licence, not you.

Please don't go up on the roof yourself to look. Photos from the ground or a window, zoomed in, tell a roofer a lot, and you can add up to five when you post.

Emergency leak repairs, re-roofing and maintenance

If storm damage, missing tiles or a leak has left water coming through your ceiling, choose the emergency option when you post and we text local roofers straight away, day or night. Roofers pay more for emergency jobs, so please only choose it if it really can't wait.

While you wait, put a bucket under the drip, move anything valuable and keep people out of any room where the ceiling is sagging. If water is near light fittings or sockets, switch off your electricity at the consumer unit until it's been checked. For storm damage, take photos before anything is moved and call your home insurer early.

A roofer will often make the roof watertight first and come back in dry weather for the proper repair. Ask what's temporary and what's permanent, and keep the receipts.

Planned work is different. Re-roofing, flat roof replacement and new fascias can be booked ahead, and you can leave the listing up for up to a month. Give measurements, photos of each side and the age of the house if you know it. Add a few photos if you can, as they help a roofer judge the work. Regular upkeep, like clearing gutters and getting the roof checked after a rough winter, often stops small problems turning into leaks.

Only the roofer who buys the job receives your contact details.

Why use GlosFix to find a roofer in Gloucester?

We do the searching for you. List what you need doing and we notify the roofers on GlosFix who cover your area, from Quedgeley and Tuffley to Churchdown, Brockworth and Highnam. Posting is free and you don't need an account.

Your details go to one roofer only, the one who takes your job on. They see the job before they buy it, so whoever calls already knows what you need. You won't get calls from firms you never asked to hear from, and there's no bidding war.

If nobody takes your job on, we'll tell you, and you've paid nothing. For regular jobs we check in with you by email and text, so you can take the listing down once it's sorted.

GlosFix doesn't do the roofing, set prices or employ the roofers. Your agreement is with the roofer who takes the job, so get their quote in writing, check what guarantee comes with the work and ask to see their public liability insurance. Our checks on businesses cover company details or an insurance certificate. They aren't a check of anyone's workmanship, so it's still worth asking about scheme registrations and past jobs.

Roofers set how far they travel, so cover can thin out further from the city. Post the job anyway. It costs nothing to find out.

Before a tradesperson starts work

Registrations

Some work must be done by a registered professional. Work on a gas boiler, cooker or fire must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer, which you can check on the Gas Safe Register.

Our business check

Limited companies are checked with Companies House and sole traders upload their insurance certificate. Trade registrations are confirmed by the tradesperson when they sign up.

Get the price in writing

Ask for a written quote that sets out the work and the price before anything starts. Your contract for the work is with the tradesperson.

Roofer questions

What people usually ask before they post a job. Can’t see yours? Email hello@glosfix.co.uk and we’ll get back to you.

It depends on the job. Typical ranges: flat roof replacement £2,800–£7,500; new roof £4,000–£19,000. Figures are what GlosFix customers reported being quoted; a same-day call-out costs more. Post your job free and a local tradesperson will quote for it.

List your job and we send a notification to the roofers on GlosFix who cover your area. The roofer who takes it on contacts you directly to discuss a quote.

Yes, you are free to go direct. GlosFix saves you the searching and keeps your number to one local roofer.

Yes. Emergency jobs go straight away to every roofer on GlosFix who covers your area, and they are not held back by the quiet hours tradespeople set. If water is coming through near light fittings or sockets, switch off your electricity at the consumer unit until it's been checked.

For regular jobs, we leave the listing active for up to a month and check in with you by email and text so you can take it down. Emergency jobs are not left sitting on the site: if nobody has taken one on within 24 hours, we remove it and let you know.

There's no single licence every roofer must hold. For work that needs building regulations approval, such as most re-roofing and flat roof replacement, a roofer registered with the Competent Roofer scheme can self-certify it. If they aren't registered, the job goes through building control instead, and the roofer should tell you how that will be handled. If a roofer mentions membership of a trade body, check it on that body's own website.

An invoice that matches the written quote, any guarantee in writing and, for work that needs building regulations approval, the compliance or completion certificate. Keep them with your house papers, as solicitors usually ask for them when you sell.

Get a written quote that lists the materials, scaffolding, waste removal and anything not included. Ask to see their public liability insurance and check any scheme membership they mention. Ask what they'll do if they find bats or suspected asbestos. Be wary of anyone who turns up uninvited saying your roof needs urgent work and asking for cash.
